TO: | Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Transportation |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB575 by Sheffield (Relating to a prohibition on the disclosure and use of certain information recorded or collected by a transponder used to electronically assess or collect a toll.), As Introduced |
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to prohibit the disclosure or use of vehicle speed information collected by a transponder (toll tag) for the purpose of enforcing or prosecuting an offense where vehicle speed was a factor.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has indicated that its toll tags and tag readers currently do not collect vehicle speed information. Based on the analysis of TxDOT and the Department of Public Safety, it is assumed the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant fiscal impact to the state.
