LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 31, 2009

TO:
Honorable Frank Corte, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Defense & Veterans' Affairs

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB618 by Corte (Relating to privileged parking for certain veterans.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to specify that a vehicle that displays an Air Force Cross or Distinguished Service Cross, the Army Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, or the Medal of Honor specialty license plate is exempt from the payment of a parking fee collected through a parking meter charged by a governmental authority other than federal government when the vehicle is operated by the person who registered the vehicle or by certain veterans.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed any costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
