March 22, 2009

TO:
Honorable John T. Smithee, Chair, House Committee on Insurance

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB663 by King, Susan (Relating to participation by single-employee businesses in private purchasing cooperatives or health group cooperatives.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Insurance Code to define the participation by single-employee businesses in private purchasing cooperatives or health group cooperatives. The bill would require the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) to adopt rules governing this participation. The bill states that TDI may develop a program to help businesses participate in private purchasing cooperatives and health group cooperatives. TDI indicates that any cost associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
