LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 24, 2009

TO:
Honorable Troy Fraser, Chair, Senate Committee on Business & Commerce

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB762 by Creighton (Relating to filing a wage claim.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Labor Code to allow a wage claim to be filed by faxing a claim to a number designated by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) or by any other means adopted by TWC by rule.  The bill also removes the requirement that the wage claim is required to be filed in writing.  Based on the analysis of the TWC, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
