April 13, 2009

TO:
Honorable Todd Smith, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:

IN RE:
HB778 by Miller, Sid (Relating to the prosecution by the attorney general of campaign finance offenses alleged to have been committed in connection with a state office or an election on a constitutional amendment.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to require that the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) prosecute criminal and civil offenses involving campaign finance committed in connection with an election for holding state office or an election for a constitutional amendment. The OAG anticipates any legal work resulting from the passage of this bill could be reasonably absorbed with current agency resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
