FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 4, 2009

TO:
Honorable Patrick M. Rose, Chair, House Committee on Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1170 by Martinez, "Mando" (Relating to the qualifications to conduct a social study in certain suits affecting the parent-child relationship.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 170.0511 of the Family Code, Social Study Evaluators: Minimum Qualifications, by adding subsection (g) that would create an exemption for individuals who before September 1, 2007 had certain characteristics and experiences. Persons exempted must complete at least eight hours of family violence dynamics training, and participate in at least 15 hours of continuing education as specified by the bill.

The Health and Human Services Commission believes that any cost associated with the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
