No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require local government entities that use a photographic system to enforce compliance with traffic-control signals to affix a yellow or amber flashing caution light to the signs that give notice of the use of a photographic traffic system that are posted along each roadway that leads to an intersection at which a photographic traffic system is installed.

Local Government Impact

The fiscal impact would vary by local government entity, depending on how many intersections use a photographic system to enforce compliance with traffic-control systems.

The City of Arlington estimates their costs would be $120,000 in fiscal year 2010 for equpment and installation, then $40,000 each of the next four fiscal years thereafter for maintenance. The City of Denton estimates costs of $54,000 for equipment and installation. The City of Sugar Land would incur costs of $80,000. The City of Waco would incur costs of $20,000.
