No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code relating to equal access to places of public accommodation. The bill would provide that a person who operates a place of public accommodation cannot prevent a person from using the accommodation solely because of certain characteristics, such as race, sex, religion, etc., or because a person operates a motorcycle. The bill would also provide injunctive relief and damages. To the extent the bill would amend civil procedures, no increase in judicial workloads or fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.
