TO: | Honorable Pete Gallego, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB1721 by Bohac (Relating to taking or attempting to take a weapon from an employee or official of a correctional facility that is operated by a county or municipality.), As Introduced |
The bill would amend the Penal Code to add employees or officials of certain correctional facilities operated by a county to the list of those for whom taking a weapon from or attempting to take a weapon from is punished under 38.14, Penal Code.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2009 and apply only to an offense committed on or after the effective date of the Act.
For this analysis it is assumed the number of offenders convicted under this statute would not
result in a significant impact on the programs and workload of state corrections agencies or on the
demand for resources and services of those agencies.
