LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 23, 2009

TO:
Honorable Burt R. Solomons, Chair, House Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1797 by Bohac (Relating to notice of a price change in retail electric service contracts.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Public Utility Commission (PUC) to adopt rules directing electric utilities, retail electric providers, electric cooperatives, and municipally owned utilities to notify their fixed price contract customers in writing of the date of any price change in their contract at least one billing cycle in advance.

Based on the analysis of the PUC, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
