TO: | Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Transportation |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB1826 by Smith, Todd (Relating to the release of motor vehicle accident report information.), As Introduced |
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to set the fee for a copy of an accident report or accident information at $6, rather than whichever is less of $6 or the actual cost of the preparation of the copy. The bill would allow the release of aggregated or statistical information relating to motor vehicle accidents so long as the information released is not personal information or would allow the identification of a specific accident. The bill would set the fee for the release of aggregated or statistical information at the actual cost of preparing the information.
Based on the analysis of the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed any costs and duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources, and the costs of releasing accident report information would be offset by fees.
