LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION
Revision 1

March 31, 2009

TO:
Honorable Tommy Merritt, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1988 by McReynolds (Relating to the duties of a peace officer in connection with the suspension of a driver's license for a failure to pass a blood or breath test for intoxication or the presence of alcohol.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require a peace officer to make and attach to a temporary driving permit a photocopy of any driver's license taken from a driver who is arrested for certain intoxication offenses involving operation of a motor vehicle.

Based on analysis by the Department of Public Safety, it is assumed that costs associated with implementation could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
