No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code and provides that if a contract is signed and involves royalties or other proceeds of production attributable to state-owned lands or mineral interests and does not result in the state filing suit or taking other action to recover on the claim before the expiration of five years after contract execution, the contracting party may file a civil action on the claim. The Office of the Attorney General anticipates any legal work resulting from the passage of this bill could be reasonably absorbed with current resources.
