TO:
Honorable Mark Strama, Chair, House Committee on Technology, Economic Development & Workforce

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2119 by Olivo (Relating to the payment of wages by school districts.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would make school districts subject to provisions in the Labor Code related to payment of wages and would allow that sovereign immunity would not apply with regard to complaints brought by school district employees under the provisions of the Labor Code referenced in the bill.

Local Government Impact

School districts would need to comply with the laws contained in Labor Code, Chapter 61, subchapters A, B and D regarding the payment of wages. Claims regarding non payment of wages could be filed with the Texas Workforce Commission. School districts could incur costs defending such claims.
