The bill would create the Reentry Policy Task Force to advise the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Texas Youth Commission, and the Department of State Health Services on policies, programs, and procedures for inmates released into the community. Members of the Reentry Policy Task Force are not entitled to compensation but are entitled to reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of offical task force duties. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice any costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill will not result in a significant fiscal impact.
Under the provisons of the bill, unless continued in existence the task force will expire September 1, 2021.
The bill would take effect immediately if a two-thirds majority vote in both houses of the Legislature is received. Otherwise, the bill, if enacted, would take effect on September 1, 2009.
