LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 28, 2009

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2263 by Eissler (Relating to extending the high school innovation grant initiative to middle and junior high schools.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would extend eligibility for grants currently administered under Texas Education Code

§39.115 to middle schools and junior high schools.  Currently eligibility for grants administered under this section references high schools.

The Texas Education Agency indicates that several programs administered by the agency with primary focus on high schools are already serving middle schools in some capacity.  No significant fiscal impact is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

School districts could apply for grants under this section to serve middle school and junior high school campuses.
