LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 18, 2009

TO:
Honorable Tommy Merritt, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2522 by Pickett (Relating to the circumstances under which the Department of Public Safety may issue a silver alert for a missing senior citizen.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code (Chapter 411) by allowing local law enforcement agencies to request the issuance of a silver alert for a missing senior citizen whose life might be in imminent danger. This bill takes effect immediately if two-thirds of the members in both the House of Representatives and the Senate vote to approve this bill. If not, the bill takes effect on September 1, 2009.

This analysis assumes any additional costs from the provisions of the bill to the Department of Public Safety can be absorbed within current appropriations.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
