LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 20, 2009

TO:
Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2542 by Eissler (Relating to excused absences in public schools for students visiting institutions of higher education.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

To the extent that some unexcused absences may currently occur as a result of high school seniors visiting institutions of higher education, the Texas Education Agency anticipates that there could be a slight increase in state funding under the Foundation School Program for the two days of excused absence that would be allowed under the bill.  However, the slight change in student attendance and associated state aid are not anticipated to be significant on a statewide basis.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
