LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 30, 2009

TO:
Honorable Dan Branch, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2612 by Shelton (Relating to salary supplements and enhancements for qualified professional nursing program faculty members at public junior colleges.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill would direct the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to make raising nursing instructor salaries at community colleges to the salary levels of nursing instructors at general academic institutions the first priority in allocating State appropriations for the Professional Nursing Shortage Reduction Program ("PNSRP").

Because the bill would shift PNSRP allocations from general academic institutions and health related institutions to community colleges, the effect of this bill would be to allocate the majority of (if not all) of the State's PNSRP appropriations to community colleges.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
