LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 7, 2009

TO:
Honorable Pete Gallego, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2924 by Farrar (Relating to the proximity of certain sex offenders' residences to a school.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to add the provision that any person subject to registration under Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure because of one or more reportable convictions or adjudications for a sexually violent offense involving a victim younger than 17 years of age may not reside within 1,000 feet of the premises of a school.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.  This analysis assumes that the bill would pose no fiscal or operational impact to the state.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
