March 30, 2009

TO:
Honorable Tommy Merritt, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3068 by Bohac (Relating to the manner in which certain state officials request and receive notice of the residence of certain sex offenders.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to require that the Department of Public Safety (DPS) maintain an electronic mail report service for legislators, from which they may receive residential information for certain sex offenders by zip code.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.  DPS indicates that any costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
