LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 30, 2009

TO:
Honorable Lois W. Kolkhorst, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3230 by Pitts (Relating to the approval of out-of-state nursing education programs by the Texas Board of Nursing.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize the Board of Nursing to recognize and approve a school of nursing or educational program operated in another state and approved by a state board of nursing or other regulatory body of another state. The bill would establish the qualifications required for another state's  nursing program to be considered to meet standards substantially equivalent to the Texas Board of Nursing standards. The bill would require the Board of Nursing to develop policies to ensure that the other state board's standards are substantially equivalent to the Board's standards.

The Board of Nursing indicates it could absorb the costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill within its current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
