TO: | Honorable Tommy Merritt, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB3334 by Merritt (Relating to the cost of replacing a law enforcement officer during training on enforcement of immigration laws.), As Introduced |
The bill would require the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division to pay, on application by a unit of local government, the cost incurred to replace a law enforcement officer during the period that the law enforcement officer is receiving training by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, or its successor agency, on the enforcement of federal immigration law. Although it is not known how many local governments would apply, it is assumed that costs associated with this bill could be absorbed within existing agency resources. The bill would be effective September 1, 2009.
