LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 6, 2009

TO:
Honorable Vicki Truitt, Chair, House Committee on Pensions, Investments & Financial Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3608 by Truitt (Relating to the deduction of qualified health insurance premiums from annuities payable by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas to certain retired public safety officers. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would provide for the deduction of health insurance premiums for eligible retired public safety officers participating in the University of Texas and Texas A&M University retiree health programs from their Teacher Retirement System (TRS) retirement annuities.  TRS may incur additional administrative and technology expenses associated with implementing the provisions of the bill, but estimates that these costs could be absorbed within the current administrative budget.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
