Fiscal Analysis

The bill would amend the Occupations Code to increase the number of members of the Texas Optometry Board from 9 to 13. The bill would require the Governor to appoint the four additional members to the board as soon as practicable on or after the effective date of the bill.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2009.

Methodology

Based on the analysis of the Texas Optometry Board, it is assumed the agency would incur addtional costs of $7,692 each year beginning in fiscal year 2010 for travel reimbursements, board member per diem, and supplies for the four additional board members to attend at least four regular board meetings each year. It is assumed the agency would assess and collect fees sufficient to offset the costs of implementing the provisions of the bill.
