No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would establish a Select Committee on the State Master Plan for Closing the Gaps in Public Education to develop and adopt a state plan aimed at closing achievement gaps.  The bill would establish the composition of the 15-member committee to include members of the legislature, the Commissioners of Public and Higher Education, a member of the State Board of Education, and members of the education and business communities.  The bill would entitle members of the committee to reimbursement of expenses associated with participation in committee activities by the appropriate legislative chamber or from funds appropriated to the committee.  The committee would be required to adopt a master plan and deliver a report to the legislature not later than December 1, 2010.

Costs for reimbursement of committee members are not anticipated to be significant.
