May 6, 2009

TO:
Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB4314 by Gallego (Relating to the electronic filing of documents for capital cases in the court of criminal appeals.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code relating to the electronic filing of documents for capital cases in the Court of Criminal Appeals. The bill would authorize the Court of Criminal Appeals to adopt rules providing for the electronic filing of documents in capital cases. To the extent the Court would be able to adopt rules for electronic filing, the rules change would not increase the workload of the Court of Criminal Appeals. The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
