Honorable Joe Deshotel, Chair, House Committee on Business & Industry
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
HB4360 by Geren (Relating to revenue sources for certain venue projects. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
The bill would amend Chapter 334, Local Government Code, regarding the use of revenue deposited into the venue project fund. Based on population criteria, Chapter 334 applies only to the City of Houston and to Harris County.
The bill would also amend portions of Chapter 334 to add to the local governmental entities to which certain subsections of Chapter 334 would apply a municipality with a population of more than 700,000 within a county with a population of more than one million that is adjacent to a county with a population of more than two million. The two counties that are adjacent to one another that have populations of more than one million and more than two million are Tarrant and Dallas counties, respectively. Based on the 2000 U.S. Census, Tarrant County does not currently contain a municipality with a population of more than 700,000; therefore, those proposed changes in statute would not currently add a municipality. However, it is assumed that upon release of the 2010 U.S. Census figures, those portions of the bill would apply to the City of Fort Worth.
