No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to allow a “Welcome to Texas” sign to include a message with the names of three former U.S. presidents and would require the sign to include a message with the name of the current president if the current president is a resident of Texas. The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to erect and maintain a Texas flag to designate the state boundary at an appropriate location at or near each interstate, U.S., or state highway originating at an official port of entry along an international border. The bill would allow TxDOT to contract with any governmental or private entity for the care and maintenance of a flag erected pursuant to the provisions of the bill.
Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
