Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 3, 2009

TO:
Honorable Lois W. Kolkhorst, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB4560 by Naishtat (Relating to certain diseases or illnesses suffered by certain emergency first responders.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.

The bill would require coordination with local health departments (local health authorities).  Health & Safety Code, Section 81.048 would require that notification of a possible exposure to certain diseases or illnesses shall be given (1) by the hospital to the local health authority; and (2)  by the local health authority to the director of the appropriate department of the entity that employs the emergency medical service personnel, peace officer, detention officer, county jailer, or fire fighter. However, no additional costs are expected since such occurrences should be rare.
