Fiscal Analysis

Under provisions of the bill, the name of Texas A&M University - Kingsville would be changed to Texas A&I University. Based on estimates from the Texas A&M University System, the cost of changing the name would total $1.9 million in General Revenue and institutional funds.

Methodology

Estimated costs associated with the name change include approximately:

-$717,000 for signage, monuments and seals
-$426,000 for business and promotional notification/inventory
-$329,000 for forms, stationery, view book, catalogs
-$175,000 for technology, including websites and IT support
-$151,000 for other costs

It is assumed that these costs would be split between General Revenue and institutional funds.

An additional $90,000 for uniforms and athletic gear would be a cost to the institution's auxiliary funds.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
