TO: | Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | SB97 by Van de Putte (Relating to the authority of a dental hygienist to provide services in certain facilities.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The bill would amend Section 262.1515 of the Occupations Code to include a community health center in the list of eligible facilities where a dentist is authorized to delegate to a dental hygienist certain services, tasks and procedures. The bill would authorize a dental hygienist to perform these delegated tasks or procedures for only six months, unless the patient has been examined by a dentist. The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners would be required to adopt rules to implement these provisions.
Based on the analysis of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, the Department of State Health Services, the Central Education Agency, and the Health and Human Services Commission, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
