No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill amends 533.083 of the Health and Safety Code to provide the executive commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission with the authority to temporarily or permanently close a state school if closure would result in a more efficient use of state money or other resources. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote of all members elected to each house.
 
The authority to close a state school currently exists and rests with the legislature; this bill extends the authority to the executive commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission.
