No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to prohibit the certification of persons convicted of a
felony as a motor vehicle inspection station operator or motor vehicle inspector. The Department of
Public Safety indicates that although the bill would likely require processing of additional suspension
cases and possibly generate a minimal number of additional administrative hearings, the costs
associated with such operations could be reasonably absorbed within current agency resources without
incurring significant fiscal impact.

Local Government Impact

The bill would amend Section 548.405 of the Transportation Code adding Sections (a-1), (a-2), and (a-3) relating to an inspection station's application and certification by the Texas Department of Public Safety. No significant fiscal impact to local entities is anticipated to implement the requirements of those sections of the bill.

The bill also would add Section (a-4) to the Transportation Code; however, because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
