LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 23, 2009

TO:
Honorable John Carona, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB368 by Carona (Relating to the denial, suspension, or revocation of a motor vehicle inspection station certificate or an inspector certificate.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to prohibit the certification of persons convicted of a felony as a motor vehicle inspection station operator or motor vehicle inspector.  The Department of Public Safety indicates that although the bill would likely require processing of additional suspension cases and possibly generate a minimal number of additional administrative hearings, the costs associated with such operations could be reasonably absorbed within current agency resources without incurring significant fiscal impact.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
