Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs
FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB1164 by Wentworth (Relating to the carrying of concealed handguns on the campuses of institutions of higher education.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code and Penal Code by allowing persons with a concealed handgun license to carry a concealed handgun while on the campus of a public or private institution of higher education. The bill places no specific requirements on state agencies; however, higher education institutions anticipate the need for training for campus law enforcement officers and the need for storage facilities and policies related to the storage of handguns in residential facilities. The additional costs related to the bill are not expected to be significant.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
