FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 30, 2009

TO:
Honorable Rodney Ellis, Chair, Senate Committee on Government Organization

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1270 by Shapleigh (Relating to the online availability of state agency reports required by law.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 441 of the Government Code to require that state agencies submit to the Texas State Library, for public access, any publications and reports which are required by law to be distributed to the state legislature or to presiding officers of the state legislature. The bill would also require that the State Library establish and maintain an index of all current state agency reports required by law and provide access to both the index and text of the reports on the internet through the Texas Records and Information Locator (TRAIL).

It is anticipated that any costs associated with the implementation of this bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact
