LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 23, 2009

TO:
Honorable Troy Fraser, Chair, Senate Committee on Business & Commerce

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1423 by Huffman (Relating to goals for renewable energy capacity derived from renewable energy sources other than sources using wind energy.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 39.904 of the Utilities Code to change the target for achieving 10,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2025 to a goal and increasing the goal of non-wind renewable energy to 3000 megawatts. The bill would require the Public Utility Commission to adopt rules to implement these changes.

The Public Utility Commission anticipates any additional work resulting from the passage of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
