LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 30, 2009

TO:
Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1426 by Williams (Relating to the installation, operation, and maintenance of automatic license plate identification cameras on a highway.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to enter into an agreement with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) or the federal law enforcement agency to install, maintain, and operate an automatic license plate identification camera on state highway right-of-way. The bill would prescribe general terms for such an agreement and purposes for which images produced by the camera may be used.

Based on the analysis of TxDOT and DPS, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
