LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2009

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1612 by Lucio (Relating to the provision of information by health and human services agencies to assist children diagnosed with velocardiofacial syndrome.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Human Resources Code as it relates to the provision of information by health and human services (HHS) agencies to assist children diagnosed with velocardiofacial syndrome.

The bill would require the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to develop information regarding velocardiofacial syndrome using medically accurate and peer-reviewed literature and to provide this information to each HHS agency that provides early childhood intervention services.  In turn, HHS agencies that provide early childhood intervention services would be required to provide the information regarding velocardiofacial syndrome to appropriate health care coordinators and therapists and to parents of a child that is diagnosed with certain conditions.

It is assumed that any costs associated with the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
