No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require the Board of Pardons and Paroles (BPP) and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to jointly conduct a study regarding the implementation of a supervised reentry program for inmates nearing their date of discharge from the department. Not later than May 1, 2010, TDCJ and the BPP shall jointly report the results of the study to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, the Criminal Justice Legislative Oversight Committee, and the standing committees in the senate and the house of representatives that have primary jurisdiction over corrections.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Board of Pardons and Paroles have determined that the cost of implementing the provisions of this bill would not be significant.
