The bill would transfer authority to review and adopt textbooks and curriculum standards (the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or TEKS) from the State Board of Education (SBOE) to the Commissioner of Education.
The bill would require that educator teams with members representing each of the 20 education regions of the state with subject matter expertise be appointed by the Commissioner to review textbooks and the TEKS.
