LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 24, 2009

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB2505 by Harris (Relating to safety of children who participate in rodeos.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would provide that subject to the approval of the Department of State Health Services, an instructional video could be included in an educational program required for a school-associated rodeo. The bill would require the executive commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to adopt rules establishing requirements for the educational program required by the bill and establishing standards relating to certain protective gear for rodeos.

HHSC estimates that the costs to health and human services agencies would not be significant and could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
