TO: | Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | SB1832 by Patrick, Dan (Relating to the eligibility for judge-ordered community supervision or for mandatory supervision of a defendant convicted of criminal solicitation of capital murder.), As Introduced |
The bill would amend the Penal Code to make individuals convicted of criminal solicitation of capital murder ineligible for judge-ordered community supervision or release to mandatory supervision.
A check of Texas Department of Criminal Justice records indicated that less than five people were placed on judge-ordered community supervision and less than five people were released to mandatory supervision for criminal solicitation of capital murder in fiscal year 2008. Therefore it is assumed that the bill would not result in a significant impact on the programs and workload of state corrections agencies or on the demand for resources and services of those agencies.
