As a result of this bill there will be no significant restriction upon:
(1) the access to government information; or (2) the ability of the citizens of Texas to transact public business.
The bill would amend Chapter 552 of the Government Code relating to the disclosure of personally identifiable information under public information law. The bill would except the birth date of a current or former employee of a governmental body, and would permit a birth date to be redacted from information a governmental body discloses without requiring a decision from the Attorney General.
The bill would add the definition for personally identifiable information as any information about an individual collected by a state governmental body that can be used to distinguish or track a person's identity, such as a person's name, social security number, birth date, birth place, mother's maiden name, medical, educational, financial, and employment information. The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.
