Pursuant to an announcement from the house floor on May 5, 2009, the House Committee on Public Safety met in a formal meeting and was called to order by the chair, Representative Merritt, at 4:42 p.m.

Absent: Representative Lewis (1).
A quorum was present.

The chair laid out HB 2730 as pending business.

The chair explained the measure.
Representative Merritt offered a complete committee substitute.
The committee substitute was adopted without objection.
Representative Burnam offered an amendment to the committee substitute.
The amendment was adopted by the following record vote:
Ayes: Representatives Merritt; Frost; Burnam; Driver; Mallory Caraway; Rodriguez; Vo (7).
Nays: Representatives King, Phil; Lewis (2).
Present, Not Voting: None (0).
Absent: None (0).
Representative Burnam offered an amendment to the measure.
The amendment was withdrawn without objection.
The chair directed the staff to incorporate the amendments into a committee substitute.
Representative Driver moved that HB 2730, as substituted, be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion failed by the following record vote:
Ayes: Representatives Merritt; Frost; Driver (3).
Nays: Representatives Burnam; King, Phil; Lewis; Mallory Caraway; Rodriguez; Vo (6).
Present, Not Voting: None (0).
Absent: None (0).
At 5:00 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
