Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Administration was held on Thursday, May 21, 2009, in E1.714.

The chair called the meeting to order at 3:38 p.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

HB 118

The chair laid out HB 118 and recognized Senator Williams, in the absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill.  Senator Williams moved that HB 118 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

The chair laid out HB 2118 and recognized Senator Williams, in the absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill.

The chair laid out HB 2609.  Senator Uresti moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Wentworth moved that HB 2609 do not pass but that CSHB 2609 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent.  Senator Wentworth moved that CSHB 2609 be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

HB 2664

The chair laid out HB 2664. Senator Uresti moved that HB 2664 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent.  Senator Uresti moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

HB 2118

Sen. Zaffirini will move to re-consider the vote by which HB 2118 failed to be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  Senator Wentworth objected, stating that since HB 2118 failed to pass and that the motion was not in order as Senator Zaffirini was not on the prevailing side of the vote.  The motion was withdrawn.

 

There being no further business, at 6:08 p.m. Senator Williams moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
