Pursuant to a notice posted and a motion by Senator Estes to suspend rule 11.18 to meet during the reading and referral of bills, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Agriculture & Rural Affairs was held on Monday, March 9, 2009, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 4:47 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
Senator Jackson moved adoption of the committee rules. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
The chair laid out SB 684 and recognized the author, Senator Lucio, Jr., to explain the bill.
Senator Hinojosa sent up Committee Amendment 1. The chair recognized the author of the bill, Senator Lucio, Jr., to explain the amendment.
Senator Hinojosa sent up Committee Amendment 2. The chair recognized the author of the bill, Senator Lucio, Jr., to explain the amendment.
Senator Hinojosa sent up Committee Amendment 3. The chair recognized the author of the bill, Senator Lucio, Jr., to explain the amendment.
Senator Hinojosa moved to withdraw amendments 1, 2 and 3. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.
The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Estes moved that SB 684 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.
At 6:00 p.m. Senator Hinojosa assumed the chair.
The chair laid out SB 252 and recognized the author, Senator Estes, to explain the bill.

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Estes moved that SB 252 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.
At 6:07 p.m. Senator Estes resumed the chair.
At 6:08 p.m. Senator Hegar moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
