Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Friday, September 24, 2010, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

A joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Education and House Committee on Public Education was held.
Senator Shapiro and Representative Eissler, as Co-Chairs, shared presiding duties throughout the hearing.
Senator Shapiro called the Senate Committee on Education to order at 10:40 a.m.
Representative Eissler called the House Committee on Public Education to order at 10:43 a.m. The following business was transacted:
The roll was called for the House Committee on Public Education, and a quorum was established.
Senator Shapiro and Representative Eissler made opening remarks to the committee and then recognized other members for opening remarks.
The Co-Chairs called the following invited witnesses to provide testimony on the following charge: Monitor the implementation of legislation addressed by the Senate Committee on Education, 81st Legislature, Regular and Called Sessions, and make recommendations for any legislation needed to improve, enhance, and/or complete implementation. Review the implementation of legislation related to the state's accountability system including the revised dropout rate calculation, textbooks, and the virtual school network. Specifically, monitor the following: HB 3, relating to public school accountability. See attached list.
The Co-Chairs called persons who registered as public witnesses to provide testimony on the interim committee charge. See attached list.
The Co-Chairs moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
There being no further business, at 1:48 p.m. Representative Eissler moved that the House Committee on Public Education be adjourned. Without objection, it was so ordered.
There being no further business, at 1:48 p.m. Senator Shapiro moved that the Senate Committee on Education stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
