Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Government Organization was held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Senator Ellis's Desk.

The chair called the meeting to order at 2:35 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 664. The committee substitute was sent up and adopted at a previous hearing. Senator Huffman moved that SB 664 do not pass but that CSSB 664 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. 

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 1002. The committee substitute was sent up and adopted at a previous hearing. Senator Huffman sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved adoption; without objection, the amendment was adopted. Senator Nelson requested unanimous consent to roll the amendments into a committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Nelson then moved that the committee substitute be adopted; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Nelson moved that SB 1002 do not pass but that CSSB 1002 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Nelson moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 1884. Senator Nelson sent up a committee substitute and moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Nelson moved that SB 1884 do not pass but that CSSB 1884 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Nelson moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 2298. Senator Nelson sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved adoption; without objection, the amendment was adopted. Senator Nelson requested unanimous consent to roll the amendment into the body of the bill; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Nelson then moved that the new committee substitute be adopted; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Nelson moved that SB 2298 do not pass but that CSSB 2298 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Nelson moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 2381. Senator Nelson moved that SB 2381 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Nelson moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

There being no further business, at 2:41 p.m. Senator Ellis moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
